Trailside CPA: A Labor of Love

Hi everyone! Welcome to our new website and blog! We are a small boutique accounting firm in Travelers Rest, SC, and I’m Alex, the owner and CPA.

I grew up about 45 minutes away in Anderson, SC. As a child, I was an avid golfer, and that led to a scholarship at Wofford College in Spartanburg, SC. This is where I was first introduced to accounting! I had a professor that was sooo passionate about accounting that it rubbed off and I to got the bug! Math and science were always my preferred subjects, so the transition to the world of accounting just seemed to fit.

I had been living in Travelers Rest for about 6 years and working in Travelers Rest as a CPA for a year when my father passed away. It was a true wake up call for me, and I really dug deep and decided that I would carry on Dad’s legacy as an entrepreneur! Fast forward three months, and we were wrapping up a total renovation to an awesome little building right outside of downtown Travelers Rest!

After graduating from Wofford, I furthered my education at Clemson University and graduated with my Masters of Public Accountancy. After graduation, I spent the first six years of my career working at a small firm in Anderson, SC. My experience working with a diverse clientele really allowed me to learn the ropes and pick up various ideas that are an integral part of running small businesses, no matter what industry you are in!

Our little office had great bones, and I’ve confirmed the rumors that the building dates back to the 1930s! How cool is that, the floors are even original – a mixture of heart of pine, poplar and yellow oak (all woods are native to the area). They were even milled locally, more specifically right down the street where Leopard Forest Coffee is currently.

You may be thinking, how does she know this? Well, as luck would have it, the grandson of the original occupant and builder stopped by to see the place! What a cool moment to learn the history! I really think his grandfather would be proud of the restorations we have done. I’d love for you to stop by and see them for yourself and grab a cup of coffee.

Now for a little bit about the firm itself and what we aim to accomplish! I’m a people person, and I really enjoy getting to know my clients. The two most common complaints I hear about my industry are the lack of availability to the actual CPA and the non-personal transaction-like processes that have become the normal way of doing business. My goal is to bring back the face-to-face meetings and accessibility, and to provide you with a welcoming atmosphere where we can collaborate and work together to achieve the best possible outcomes for you.

I work with businesses and individuals alike, and my biggest asset is my ability to plan for the future and to help you with the timing of transactions. The more I know about you and your situation, the more opportunities for tax savings and business strategies!

If this sounds like something you’d like to check out! Contact me, let’s sit down and discuss what value I can add to your family or to your business. I’d love to be an extension of your team!

P.S. – I’d also like to say thank you to the community and my family and friends for coming out to support me at my grand opening. It’s been so overwhelming to have such great support! I’d also like to say a special thank you to those who pulled this renovation off with me! I couldn’t have done it without the long hours, labor, sweat equity, ideas and design that were so generously given! You nailed it! I’m so proud of what we have started, and I look forward to creating relationships and community for years to come!
